The Caribbean Sex Workers Coalition (CSWC) is a regional network of organisations representing female, male and transgender sex workers. It was founded in 2011 and is based in Georgetown, Guyana.

The Dominican Republic recorded its first coronavirus case on the 1st March 2020, and the country has since reached almost 100,000 reported cases. France 24 has published an article on the impact of COVID-19 on transgender sex workers in the Dominican Republic, speaking with Luna Veras, Henely Flores, and organisation TRANSSA, who are all based in the capital of Santo Domingo.

UNAIDS have drawn attention to the Guyana Sex Work Coalition’s work supporting the sex work community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In April 2020, NSWP launched a global survey to understand the impact of COVID-19 on sex workers. The survey received 156 responses in total from 55 different countries out of which 53 responses were from 6 countries – Canada, Guyana, Mexico, Suriname, Trinidad, and the United States – in the North America and the Caribbean region.

这种工作带来的压力由于缺乏紧急资金而更加严重。

Les Etats Unis ont annoncé cette semaine qu’ils ont dépassé le 1 million de cas enregistrés de COVID-19, et presque 61,000 morts. Malgré ces sombres étapes, le pays a été divisé entre ceux impatients de revenir à leurs habitudes et ceux qui souhaitent que le confinement reste en vigueur. Laissés en dehors de ce débat sont les travailleurSEs du sexe qui n’ont pas d’autre choix que de continuer à travailler à cause de leur exclusion de toute aide gouvernementale.

Los Estados Unidos anunció esta semana que han superado el millón de casos de COVID-19 registrados, y cerca de las 61.000 muertes. A pesar de estas serias cifras, el país está dividido entre aquellos que están ansiosos por volver a la “normalidad” y aquellos que desean permanecer en la actual cuarentena. Fuera de este debate están las personas que ejercen el trabajo sexual que no tienen otra opción que continuar trabajando debido a su exclusión de cualquier paquete de ayudas del gobierno.

Lorena Borjas – a pillar of New York City’s Latinx LGBTQ community, and a staunch defender of the rights of trans people, Latinx people, and sex workers – died on Monday 30th March of complications from COVID-19.

A group of 72 LGBTI organisations have delivered a letter to 13 members of the Washington D.C. City Council calling on them to support an upcoming Bill which would decriminalise sex work in the district.

More than 130 organisations from across Canada have signed on to a statement calling on the new government to implement 'the total decriminalization of sex work as a first step to protecting and respecting the human rights of all sex workers' and the 'recognition of sex work as meaningful and valuable work'.

Amnesty International has released a new report highlighting the routine use of rape, violence and torture by police to punish women sex workers in the Dominican Republic.

A new coalition is calling for the decriminalisation of sex work in New York. Decrim NY was officially launched at the end of February, led by people in the sex trades "whether through choice, circumstance, or coercion".

A Senator in San Francisco, California, has announced new legislation to protect sex workers from arrest when they report a serious or violent crime.

Last week Maggie’s Toronto Sex Worker Action Project, a NSWP member based in Ontario, Canada, issued a community action alert to raise awareness and support for Moka, a black trans woman currently being held in a men’s prison for defending herself against a violent client.

On 28th June, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, Human Rights Watch, The Internet Archive, and two individuals have filed a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of FOSTA (Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, 2017).
