Who do you work with?

Hoymas as a male sex work led organisation has a strong partnerhsip with other sex work led groups in Kenya, Africa and globally. In Kenya we work together in addressing issues affecting the sex work community. We have a technical working in Kenya that involves male, female and trans SW.

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?

All members of Hoymas are male sex workers. 80% of Hoymas staff are male sex workers and board members.

Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?
Oppose the criminalisation and other legal oppression of sex work and support its recognition as work
Advocate for universal access to health services, including primary health care, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services
Speak out about violence against sex workers, including violence from police, institutions, clients, and intimate partners, while challenging the myth that sex work is inherently gender-based violence
Oppose human rights abuses, including coercive programming, mandatory testing, raids and forced rehabilitation
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
Advocate for the economic empowerment and social inclusion of sex workers as sex workers
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face

Due to criminilisation of sex work in Kenya there are increased cases of violence experienced from either police, clients, the general public or even family members. There is also a huge challenge in accessing healthcare services due to stigma and discrimination.

Describe other areas of your work

The main focus of Hoymas is promotion and protection of human rights including police sensitisation, paralegal training, community training on human rights and advocacy for sex worker's rights etc. Community outreach including health talks, mobilisation etc., prevention, care and treatment, economic empowerment.
