Young sex workers (aged 18-29) have diverse needs and priorities and face multiple structural barriers and increased vulnerabilities. However, young sex workers are often excluded from meaningful involvement in the development of policies and programming that affect their health and lives.

Young sex workers (aged 18-29) have diverse needs and priorities and face multiple structural barriers and increased vulnerabilities. As young people, young sex workers face particular challenges around housing, income security, and access to opportunities such as education and employment. At the same time, structural barriers, combined with increased isolation, create conditions that make it difficult for young sex workers to access vital resources, including peer support from sex worker-led organisations.

Global Consultant: Briefing Paper on meeting the needs and priorities of young sex workers

NSWP is seeking to appoint a Global Consultant to lead the development of a Briefing Paper, with accompanying Community Guide, on meeting the needs and priorities of young sex workers. NSWP will consider applications from individuals based in or outside of the UK.

The policy brief summarises the research on young people who sell sex including both young people who sell sex below the age of 18 and young sex workers between the ages of 18 and 29. It clearly demonstrates how the systemic discrimination, stigma, and criminalisation experienced by young people who sell sex increases their vulnerability to HIV.

This global policy brief summarises the research on young people who sell sex including both young people who sell sex below the age of 18 and young sex workers between the ages of 18 and 29. It provides an overview of the legal framework that impact people under 18 who sell sex. It also summarises the available literature on the experiences of young people who sell sex. It clearly demonstrates how the systemic discrimination, stigma, and criminalisation experienced by young people who sell sex increases their vulnerability to HIV. A community guide is also available.
