The Independent reports that a civil court in Barcelona has ruled that sex workers in Spain are to be entitled to the same labour rights as workers in any other industry and that they should have the right to claim unemployment benefits when not in work.
In the United States, the practice of paying for the right to work a shift at a strip club is widespread.
Municipal policy makers in Ho Chi Minh City submitted a report to the Ministry of Social Affairs on Monday 15 September 2014, claiming that the local sex industry has dramatically expanded in size over the past 10 years despite the criminalisation of sex work and active policing of sex work venues.
This conference takes as its starting point the need to explore how sex which involves forms of commercial exchange can be understood within broader cultural and social contexts. International Sex Workers’ Day (International Whore's Day), 2 June, is a day which many sex worker activists celebrate, respect, honour and commemorate as the first internationally recognised sex worker instigated and organized direct action and civil rights action. On June 2, 1975, over 100 sex workers in Lyon, France, engaged in a civil disobedience action that involved a week-long occupation of St. Nizer Church.

Labour standards and occupational health and safety have been the rights of Canadian Workers for over 100 years. The sex industry and its workers have however never enjoyed the privileges of being acknowledged for providing a safe work space or been able to complain about dangerous conditions. This has forced the system at large to impose what it believes is right for sex industry workers with disastrous results for decades in the BC/Yukon region. The need for a community based process through which the sex industry can govern itself and have input to its future and stability has never been more urgent.
This community-based report by POWER discusses the challenges faced by sex workers in Ottawa and Gatineau in Ontario, Canada. They interviewed 43 adult sex workers including male, female, and transgender sex workers and used this research to guide their advocacy efforts. The report outlines, in detail, the context of sex worker in Ottawa and Gatineau, the labour site challenges faced by sex workers, stigma, discrimination, and violence against sex workers in the region.
