Backpage CEO Carl Ferrer failed to appear in a US Congressional Hearing on November 19th. Ferrer may face contempt charges as a result. “Definance of a congressional subpoena is rare and it’s serious,” said Senator Rob Portman. Portman and Senator Claire McCaskill are leading a subcommittee investigation into Backpage’s supposed involvement in ‘sex trafficking’.

This type of research is important because it not only reflects a growing and diversifying consumer demand for male sex work, but also because it enables the construction of knowledge that is up-to-date with changing ideas around sex and sexualities.

This briefing paper explains the unique needs and rights of MSW and is intended for those who make policy, design and implement programmes, and work directly with MSW, in the hope of increasing awareness and understanding of the multiple realities and needs of this community.

NSWP Member Resources: HOOK - Resources for Male Sex Workers

NSWP member HOOK, is a sex worker-led organisation based in New York, US. HOOK works with male sex workers and offers workshops on life skills including financial literacy and legal advice and hosts discussions about working smarter through its Rent U program. HOOK also conducts research into sex work by men in the US.

Hook has developed a series of resources for male sex workers including:
