DecrimSexWorkCA Coalition

Who do you work with?

We are a BIPOC and QTGNC sex worker-led coalition. Our leadership body is the Steering Committee and the coordinator works closely in a non-hierarchical structure. Our base includes sex workers from all parts of the industry. Organizations that support us but do not lead us include: American Civil Liberties Union, Free Speech Coalition, Trans Latina Coalition, Positive Womens Network, SWOP LA, SWOP USA, Bay Area Works Support, API Legal Outreach, Sex Workers Film Festival, TRANScend Retreat, Equality Ca, GLIDE SF, St James Infirmary, and many more. Note: we have a big network of non-SW groups that we work with, but we remain SEX WORKER LED.

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?

Our leadership body is fully sex worker led, and we aim to hire sex workers whenever possible. For example, our interpreters or consultants.

Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?
Oppose the criminalisation and other legal oppression of sex work and support its recognition as work
Critique the trafficking paradigm that conflates representations of sex work, migration, and mobility
Advocate for universal access to health services, including primary health care, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services
Speak out about violence against sex workers, including violence from police, institutions, clients, and intimate partners, while challenging the myth that sex work is inherently gender-based violence
Oppose human rights abuses, including coercive programming, mandatory testing, raids and forced rehabilitation
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
Advocate for the economic empowerment and social inclusion of sex workers as sex workers
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face

Criminalization and harrassment, migrant sex workers have more difficulty accessing justice, and constant loss of community members are examples.

Describe other areas of your work

We are working to decriminalize sex work in the state of California - AND build up a sex worker-led coalition that is majority BIPOC and QTGNC led. We work through our various movement teams: Policy Advocacy, Mutual Aid and Fundraising, and Arts Media and Communications. We also have a Conflict Resolution Committee.
