SWIPE

Who do you work with?

Female, male and transgender sex workers. We include allies between our members but our efforts are aimed at sex workers.

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?

Our organisation is sex worker led, by statute the directive board must be composed of more than 50% sex workers.

Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
Advocate for the economic empowerment and social inclusion of sex workers as sex workers
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face

In Italy the sex workers community is very weak, characterised by a lot of competition and whorearchy. Sex workers are only rarely politicized; isolation and internalized whorephobia make it difficult to build a sense of unity. In addition last year there has been an attempt to pass the nordic model and the newly elected government worry us being both very conservative, this being a problem to all but especially to marginalized, migrant and trans sex workers.

Describe other areas of your work

Aside from community building, we are organising a congress in Italy together with other sex worker organisations to strengthen the activist network and possibly create an umbrella organisation in Italy.
