Who do you work with?

G.L.I.T.S. was born from the pain and suffering our communities have endured all across the world. Our organization, fiscally sponsored by Project Prosper of Florida, has advocated on the behalf of trans sex workers, people of color, formerly incarcerated, and other members of the LGBTQ community.

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?

"FOR US, BY US" is our motto. We are former and current sex workers facilitating services, doing community-based research, and advocacy for sex workers' in harm's way.

Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?
Critique the trafficking paradigm that conflates representations of sex work, migration, and mobility
Advocate for universal access to health services, including primary health care, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services
Speak out about violence against sex workers, including violence from police, institutions, clients, and intimate partners, while challenging the myth that sex work is inherently gender-based violence
Oppose human rights abuses, including coercive programming, mandatory testing, raids and forced rehabilitation
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
Advocate for the economic empowerment and social inclusion of sex workers as sex workers
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face

Housing and a current sex worker crisis due to the passing of SESTA and FOSTA legislation in the spring of 2018.

Describe other areas of your work

We approach the health and rights crises faced by transgender sex workers holistically using harm reduction, human rights principles, economic and social justice, along with a commitment to empowerment and pride in finding solutions from our own community. The first issue we address is that of immediate need/crisis support for transgender sex workers, including community members from the NYC area, across the US and globally through supporting asylum seekers from our priority communities. The next issue we address is health care and health resilience for transgender sex workers. We need to address this issue because our community is hyper-marginalized and has a profound need for safe sex supplies and free/low cost health to address both trans specific and holistic needs. We currently work on housing since so many in our G.L.I.T.S.’ community are without stable housing, deepening the cycle of disenfranchisement. G.L.I.T.S. also advocates and educates to ensure health, wellness and inclusion of transgender people in our society and to address the stigmatization and criminalization of trans people because of anti-prostitution/anti-sex work laws.
