Amnesty International have submitted the following response to UN Women have submitted the following response to the UN Women consultation on "sex work, sex trade, and prostitution." Their submission highlights their Policy on State Obligations to Respect, Protect, and Fulfill the Human Rights of Sex Workers and the extensive reasearch they conducted in Norway, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, and Argentina in the development of their policy. They recommend UN Women extend the period of its consultation to allow for more comprehensive engagement with sex workers and other key stakeholders. They also express concern over the language used by UN Women in the consultation, because of its conflation between sex work and human trafficking.
In addition to this response, NSWP has published a response to UN Women's online consultation here and has developed a draft framework for a UN Women human rights affirming approach to sex work in response to a UN women e-consultation. NSWP is also petitioning UN Women to meaningfully consult sex workers in the development of their policy.
