We work with cisgender and transgender, male and female, national and migrant sex workers. We also occasionally work with clients, brothel keepers, and agents. Nationally, we collaborate with other groups such as transgender rights groups, HIV/AIDS organisations, migrant workers' groups and women's rights groups.
There are four staff members on payroll - two of whom are sex workers and two are allies. Of the sex workers, one of whom is in charge of research and the other in charge of programming. The allies are in charge of administrative, fundraising and marketing work.
1. Stigma and discrimination from law enforcers: Sex workers often face differential treatment from law enforcers, which results in not being able to access justice services. When they report crimes against them, law enforcers resort to victim blaming and slut shaming. Furthermore, many sex workers have reported being verbally abused and harassed by law enforcers.
2. Transgender sex workers face disproportionate targeting and profiling by law enforcers, and face discrimination when it comes to employment. Many transgender women are in the sex industry due to discrimination since young, however being in the sex industry means increased risk of incarceration.
Apart from working with community and educating the public on sex workers' rights, Project X is also part of the Alliance for Like Minded Civil Society Organisations (ALMOS) in Singapore. We stand in solidarity with other causes such as the anti-death penalty and restorative justice campaign, the advocacy for anti-discrimination legislation, anti-detention without trial, and LGBTQ rights.
