NSWP Regional Network

The Caribbean Sex Workers Coalition (CSWC) is a regional network of organisations representing female, male and transgender sex workers. It was founded in 2011 and is based in Georgetown, Guyana.

NSWP, The Global Network of Sex Work Projects, heralded the decision made by the Canadian Supreme Court in December 2013 to strike down laws related to sex work that were recognised to be unconstitutional and in violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The striking down of provisions that restricted sex workers’ ability to implement crucial security strategies in their work was seen by NSWP members and allies around the world as a significant step forward in advancing the health and human rights of sex workers in Canada.

Recently, VICE News posted a short documentary called “Young and Gay: Jamaica’s Gully Queens.” The film introduces viewers to the lives of LGBT youth who, having been forced from their homes or rejected by their families, live in an underground Kingston Town storm shelter, known locally as a “gully.”

Guyana-based NSWP member organisation, SASOD (The Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination) was honoured with the 2014 Red Ribbon Award for Advocacy and Human Rights earlier this week, during a special session at the 20th International AIDS Conference in Melbourne.

NSWP member Desiree Alliance have boycotted the 2014 International AIDS Conference in Melbourne Australia. 

As they explain in their press release they feel that the inadequate representation of sex workers and blatant disregard to assist the problematic policies of the United States regarding access to HIV health care has historically and largely served the interests of the International AIDS Society’s agenda to ignore a global health crisis for those in sexual economies.
