Projet L.U.N.E.

Who do you work with?

We work with adult female sex workers. A majority have worked or work on the street, in escort agencies or at home. These women are in a socially vulnerable place and their basic needs are compromised (housing, nutrition, physical, material and financial security). It sometimes happen that we work with these women’s children or partners.

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?

They are consulted in all decisions/orientations taken by our organisation. It may be in the working group which meets weekly, in the Board meeting where they have a majority of the seats, etc.
Furthermore, they are invited to take part in our annual general Assembly. They are also spokespeople during public conference or media-related activities, etc. and they represent the group on external working groups.

Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?
Oppose the criminalisation and other legal oppression of sex work and support its recognition as work
Advocate for universal access to health services, including primary health care, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services
Speak out about violence against sex workers, including violence from police, institutions, clients, and intimate partners, while challenging the myth that sex work is inherently gender-based violence
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face

Severe material and social poverty. Some women do not have a fixed residence. Some are facing drug use problems. Furthermore, they show important mental and physical health issues (hepatitis C and HIV amongst others). Because of who they are, they are stigmatied and social reinsertion, access to healthcare, and access to legal services becomes a constant struggle. They are the target of different kinds of violence because they are vulnerable.
