Is selling sex criminalised?
Selling sex is legal and there does not appear to be any criminalisation of other activities under the Nauru Crimes Act 2016. Contacted a local UNAIDS contact to verify this but no reply was received.
Is buying sex criminalised?
Yes, it is illegal to engage the services of a sex worker.
Is organising/managing criminalised?
Yes - it is illegal to hold interest in premises where commercial sex is sold. It is also illegal to engage in "intimidatory contact" with a view to compelling a person to engage in 'prostitution' or give earnings from 'prostitution'.
Is there mandatory HIV/STI testing?
No
Is there mandatory registration?
No
Are there travel restrictions that apply only or specifically to sex workers?
Immigration law prohibits entry to anyone who is a 'reputed prostitute' or who is living or previously lived on proceeds of 'prostitution'
Is sex work recognised as work?
No
Is sex work decriminalised with limited regulation?
No
