Is selling sex criminalised?
Sex work is technically legal in El Salvador but municipal authorities create administrative offences against soliciting in public or they designate zones for street sex work that are isolated and dangerous.
Is buying sex criminalised?
Yes - some municipalities apply local laws against buying sex
Is organising/managing criminalised?
Organised 'prostitution' and living off the earnings are criminalised.
What other laws are used disproportionately against sex workers?
Public order laws are used against sex workers
Is there mandatory HIV/STI testing?
Not in law but some local municipalities require sex workers to show health certificates to the police. In some municipalities if establishments want a license (bar, disco) they have to disclose health certificates to authorities. These lead to coerced testing of sex workers.
