تشير ’الحماية الاجتماعية‘ إلى الإجراءات المُصَمَّمَة لأجل منع ومعالجة الحالات التي تؤثر سلبا على سلامة الناس، بالإضافة إلى الإجراءات التي تقلل من الضعف وتُسَهِّل الاستقرار الاجتماعي والاقتصادي. كثيرًا ما يتم النظر إلى العاملين/ات بالجنس على أنهم/ن يحتاجون/ن إلى الحماية بسبب الاعتقاد الخاطئ السائد بأن العاملين/ات بالجنس ’ضحايا‘ الاتجار والاستغلال.

لقد كان العاملون/ات بالجنس التجاري من ضمن أولئك الذين تأثروا/ن بشدة في بداية وباء كوڤيد-١٩ ولا يزالون متأثرين/ات بهذه الأزمة العالمية للصحة العامة. إن التحديات التي واجهها العاملون/ات بالجنس التجاري قبل وقوع كوڤيد-١٩، كنتيجة للتجريم، الوصم والتمييز، قد تفاقمت بينما تعرض العاملون/ات بالجنس إلى الصعوبات، الخسارة الكاملة للدخل، الزيادة في المضايقات، انتهاكات الحقوق الإنسانية، واللامساواة الصحية.

AIDS 2022, the 24th International AIDS Conference, is taking place in 2022 both in-person and virtually. With this year’s conference being held in Montreal, NSWP member organisation Stella, l’amie de Maimie have produced a special issue of ConStellation—Stella’s annual magazine by and for sex workers and our friends now it’s in 27th year—as a way to orient sex workers and allies to all sex work content at the AIDS conference.

The success and challenges of GF - C19RM in meeting the needs of Key Populations is a community-led report by MPact in partnership with NSWP, INPUD and GATE. The report was supported by Global Fund: Community Rights and Gender – Strategic Initiative.

NSWP welcomes reports that the online platform OnlyFans has reversed its decision to ban content containing “sexually-explicit conduct” on its website from October 2021, after the backlash the announcement received from its users. The plan would have resulted in a severe loss of income for many sex workers, including those who have moved online to work during the COVID-19 pandemic, and for whom OnlyFans has become a main source of income as the pandemic continues.
