Sex Worker-Led Network UNESO Formed

On the 29th of April, 2016, sex work leaders in Kampala, Uganda, met to discuss the formation of a new sex worker-led network. They decided to form the Uganda Network for Sex Workers Organization (UNESO) to replace the former Uganda Harmonized Rights Alliance. “There are lots of things affecting us including arrests by the police and we do not have access to health services,” said BAD BLACK. “If we have a strong network this can help us fight all the injustices that affect sex workers,” she continued.

Apollo Police Station Violence

 

During a control operation that took place on the 15th of April 2016, three sex workers were arrested in Lima, Peru. They were strip searched and exposed; they were told that they would serve time in prison.

France Passes Law that Criminalises Clients

The French Parliament passed a bill on the 6th of April, 2016 which makes it illegal to pay for sex in France. The bill passed 64 to 12 in the National Assembly, France’s lower house, with 501 deputies abstaining from the vote.

Fourteen sex workers were arrested on the 24th of January in Cambodia.

During the night of 17th of May, Viacheslav Datsik and his supporters illegally raided a brothel in St Petersburg where 10 sex workers were working.

Colectivo Flor de Azalea

The Association of Female Sex Workers, "Colectivo Flor de Azálea," was formally created on the 14th of February, 2002 in Machala, Ecuador. Their goal is to provide sex workers with the tools to organise and empower themselves in order to stop the stigma, violence, and discrimination they face.

Project X
