Global Consultant: Smart Sex Worker’s Guide to Social Protection and Sex Work

NSWP is seeking to appoint a Global Consultant to develop a Smart Sex Worker’s Guide on Social Protection and Sex Work. NSWP will consider applications from individuals based in or outside of the UK.

Sex workers worldwide are overwhelmingly excluded from social protection schemes and government emergency responses put in place for other workers. Most government programmes aimed at sex workers do not address needs identified by sex workers, but rather claim to ‘protect’ sex workers from themselves, whilst violating their human rights and undermining their autonomy. Criminalisation, stigma and discrimination, and the failure to recognise sex work as work compound sex workers’ exclusion and foster economic insecurity.

This Smart Guide will review the human rights that underpin the provision of Social Protection, and explore how sex workers’ human rights are denied, including in emergency and humanitarian responses. It will highlight the importance of full decriminalisation and the recognition of sex work as work in realising full access to social protection, labour rights, and economic security.
