Who do you work with?

We work with migrant women, girls, transgender and their families who come from Spanish, Portuguese and Haitian Creole speaking back grounds.

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?

On our board there are female sex workers, whom we work with closely in community projects focused towards the Spanish speaking sex workers community  and their families.

Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?
Critique the trafficking paradigm that conflates representations of sex work, migration, and mobility
Advocate for universal access to health services, including primary health care, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services
Speak out about violence against sex workers, including violence from police, institutions, clients, and intimate partners, while challenging the myth that sex work is inherently gender-based violence
Oppose human rights abuses, including coercive programming, mandatory testing, raids and forced rehabilitation
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face

1. Language and cultural  barriers are major challenges for migrant women and their families coming from  Spanish speaking countries. Moreover, in Suriname the official language is Dutch and Lingua Franco Sarang Tongo, thus communication barriers are an ongoing challenge that we encounter in providing support to these women.
2. Access to health, social services, stigma & discrimination and increasing cases gender based violence, including  seeking redress, is often met with institutional and vertical challenges.

Describe other areas of your work

1. Emergency Food Packages for migrant sex workers
2. Immigration assistance for migrants
3. Medical Reviews and Tele-Health for migrants and families
4. Emergency Rental Payments for migrants
5. Psychosocial care / Counselling Services for migrants that is language specific

6. Sexual Health promotion and outreach.

7. Social enterprise and Sustainability projects.
